The daughter of Colombian parents, Maria Elisa Camargo was born in Guayaquil in 1985. At 19 she moved to Bogota, Colombia where she began to study Economics at the “Universidad de los Andes”. She interrupted her studies in order to pursue an acting career. It was there where in 2005 she found out about the famous show The X Factor, for which she gave an audition.
After several months, she came to the program under the guidance of José Gaviria. There she competed with Farina, another contestant aspiring to the title. She played tunes from artists such as Lara Fabian, David Bisbal and Shakira.
During the third week of the reality show, she was eliminated after confronting the Hijas de doña Diana.
After her elimination from the program, Maria Elisa dedicated her time to making castings for the Canal RCN, where he obtained a role in television series Floricienta portraying Natalia. With this role Maria Elisa was able to combine her acting skills with her vocal talent and also revealed her skills in dance choreography. This was a great experience for her and prepared her for the next stage.
Some time after Floricienta, she was cast as María Alegría in the soap opera La marca del deseo. In 2008, Maria Elisa moved to Mexico, where she did some castings and met the producer Pedro Damian, who invited her to participate in the remake of the Argentinean soap opera Verano del 98, now called Verano de Amor in which she plays Isabella Roca – the villain of the story.
In 2009, she played the character of Monica Ledesma in the Mexican soap opera Hasta que el dinero nos separe. In 2010, she played the characters Kristel Ruiz and Teresa Curiel in the soap opera Llena de amor being one of the villains, alongside Altair Jarabo and Azel Robinson.
